We have made the difficult, but important decision to temporarily close our clinic due to the Covid-19 crisis and to do our part to help slow down the spread of infection. You can be assured that this decision was not made lightly but was made to protect patients, staff and families.
All current patients affected by the decision with scheduled appointments have had text messages sent to the number on file and we will reschedule when we are in a position to do so.
Will this delay treatment?
Successful orthodontic treatment depends on showing up for your appointments. However this is not an option under these unusual circumstances. Don’t worry! There are very few emergencies in orthodontics. If you have your braces on for a few extra weeks while the clinic is closed this hiccup shouldn’t have much of an impact on your overall treatment. Most of the wires used in your appliance are memory wires. These are unlikely to be bent or changed into a shape that will hinder tooth movement. They will eventually reach a "hibernation" stage. Given the situation, we will work hard to get your treatment back on track when we reopen.
For patients wearing elastics between their upper and lower braces, if you have been wearing them for more than 6 weeks please reduce this to night-time wear only.
You can help keep treatment on track by following some simple directions, continue to avoid hard and sticky foods and keep your teeth clean. If a bracket breaks, don’t worry. This is not an emergency. This can be fixed when we are up and running again. If a bracket breaks and the wire is long and causing an ulcer (usually the last bracket at the back), use the wax we have already given you or else just hold and cut off the loose piece of wire.
ADVICE TO PATIENTS WHO HAVE LOST OR MISLAID THEIR RETAINERS Use a mouthguard. If you don’t have one, see if there is one available to purchase in a pharmacy or online and use the remoulding/boiling technique as per instructions on the packaging and adapt closely to your teeth. This should be worn until we re-open and new retainers can be made.
At the moment, we don’t know exactly when the clinic will be re-opening but when open we will contact any patients with cancelled appointments and reschedule as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding at this time.
